The RTÉ news2day team have been inspired by poet Amanda Gorman's verse at Joe Biden's inauguration and they have challenged the children of Ireland to write some poetry about what matters to them.

The news2day team wants to encourage children to express how they feel about the issues that matter through poetry.

It's not a competition, but an opportunity to have their words read out on news2day on RTÉ2 every weekday at 4.20 pm.

Aisling Moloney and Mícheál Ó Scannáil present news2day,
RTÉ's news programme designed specifically for children

For the next few weeks, poets and writing experts will give tips and help to aspiring writers on the show. Children around the country are being asked to put pen to paper and channel the poet inside of them.

Kids are encouraged to write a poem under 200 words with the title What Matters to Me and send them to news2day@rte.ie.

For further inspiration, news2day have a series of 'Pandemic Postcards' from children living around the world.

Children can hear how Aidan Hodson-Brain (11) in Belgium is finding the pandemic:

Madina Chen who is from Hsinchu, Taiwan tells viewers about her experience:

More 'Pandemic Postcards' from other countries around the world will feature through the week.

RTÉ's dedicated children's news programme news2day presented by Aisling Moloney and Mícheál Ó Scannáíl airs at 4.20 pm weekdays on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player - watch clips back on their twitter channel.
