But one artist really seemed to strike a chord with viewers and listeners across the country, with a unique rendition, a transformation really, of an Irish classic originally recorded by the Saw Doctors. A song of separation from the people and the places we love the most.

The Galway band's incomparable showstopper, N17, was given an extraordinary makeover by Tullamore Singer, Tolu Makay, in an arrangement by Gavin Murphy, performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra.
But even as the song was broadcast, Tolu Makay had never met or spoken to the original composers of the song, Saw Doctors members, Leo Moran and Davy Carton.
That anomaly was corrected by RTÉ Arena on Monday evening, when Tolu Makay and Leo Moran joined presenter, Sean Rocks, to speak about the phenomenal reaction to this new recording - listen above...
