Mobile Music Machine promotes the finest classical musicians working in Ireland and facilitates performances and workshops in all parts of the country, in partnership with leading national organisations such as the National Concert Hall, Music Generation and the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.
Covid Care Concerts was created by Gerald in May 2020, in response to the many social and economic problems presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. The series has been delivered in association with the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, the Ireland Funds and generously funded by Creative Ireland at a national level.
The goal of the project is to bring live, socially distanced outdoor concerts to the grounds of residential care homes and hospital settings. We bring the best of classical Irish talent to the doorstep and build long lasting relationships with care homes through repeated visits.
The concerts are designed to engage the staff and residents alike and to combat the emotional and psychological stress caused by social distancing and lockdown.
The project will have seen the ensemble perform over 200 concerts by December in six counties, employing over 30 of the finest Irish professional musicians.
The project has also been of huge benefit to the emotional and mental wellbeing of the musicians involved. It has been truly humbling to have the opportunity to make music at this time and to be a part of the lives of so many wonderful citizens across Ireland. It has also provided employment at a time when most live performance has ceased to exist.
Covid Care Concerts was recently announced as a key part of the HSE's Keep Well Campaign. This government backed initiative will see the Mobile Music Machine deliver a further 250 concerts in four counties in 2021, in partnership with Age Friendly Ireland.
Mobile Music Machine's goal is to roll the project out to every county across Ireland. We hope to continue to share the joy of music making in care hone and hospital settings long after the demise of Covid-19.
