While it seems that streaming platforms such as Netflix are having a quiet week when it comes to big film releases, IFI@Home, a film renting platform established by the Irish Film Institute, have a number of great options for the weekend. Their French Film Festival is still running until the end of this week, featuring a plethora of great movies such as À l'abordage, Those Who Work and #IAmHere, that will immerse you in French culture. If you are the type of person who loves a good documentary, then you will be excited to hear that I Am Greta, the documentary about Swedish teen climate activist, Greta Thunberg, is now streaming on the platform, or if Midsommar-like cult horror is more your cup of tea you will most likely enjoy The Other Lamb, a haunting folk horror from acclaimed director Małgorzata Szumowska.

MUSIC

Highly acclaimed Irish rapper JYellowL is releasing his new album 2020 D/Vision this week. As his previous music has demonstrated, JYellowL is not afraid to tackle big social issues such as inequality and identity through his musie; three years in the making, 2020 D/Vision faced numerous delays due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Today at 7pm the Abbey Theatre will be streaming a production of 14 Voices From The Bloodied Field across their social media platforms. The production is a collaboration with the GAA and brings together 14 writers, 14 directors, and 14 actors to give a voice to the men, woman, and children who were killed in Croke Park on 21 November 1920. TELEVISION

For those of us who have already binged our way through the drama-filled fourth season of The Crown, you may be feeling at a loss for something to watch… but fear not, for Netflix has dropped a new feel-good show called We Are The Champions. This series details some of the lesser-known competitive activities, including cheese rolling, chilli eating, fantasy hair-styling, frog jumping and dog dancing, with the potential to leave you very inspired to take up a new hobby in the (fingers crossed) final stretch of this lockdown.

The Stinging Fly literary magazine have released their Winter 2020-21 issue; it's a special Galway 2020 Edition, dedicated to the literary talent hailing from the west and its role as European Capital of Culture. Guest-edited by Irish novelist and short story writer, Lisa McInerney, with Elaine Feeney as the poetry editor, the magazine features the best of Irish literary talent in the areas of fiction, poetry and essay-writing, making for an excellent read that spotlights a wide range of voices. The Irish Museum of Modern Art is bringing the gallery experience straight to you with IMMA Online. You can view over 3,500 artworks online, view films, take part in their Art & Ageing Programme and make art from their Explorer at Home project.
