It's that time of year again: short days, long evenings and to make matters worse, they dragged us into Level 5. However, all is not lost: Dublin Book Festival 2020 have come up with five fun online events not to miss!
We all need to escape at the moment, and what better way than to curl up beside a fire and have a movie night! On Tuesday, November 10th at 7 pm, join DBF and the Irish Film Institute for an evening with internationally renowned film director, John Boorman, director of Deliverance, Excalibur and The General.
Be whisked away to the tranquil surrounds of John's estate in Wicklow to hear about his newly released nature diary and poetry collection, John Boorman's Nature Diary: One Eye, One Finger, published by Lilliput Press. The evening's entertainment will continue with a screening of his work, via the IFI.

Let's talk about the children... With all that has gone on over the past eight months, our kids have had many challenges thrown at them. Their fears and anxieties need to be addressed. Join Dr Malie Coyne and Dr Brendan Kelly in conversation with Trish Murphy on November 10th at 8 pm, to discuss how to safeguard both our own mental health and offer advice for parents, teachers, and carers dealing with children’s anxieties during the pandemic. There will be a live Q&A as part of this live online event.
Many of us have found solace in nature throughout the pandemic, and have taken the opportunity to reconnect with our natural surroundings. Learn more about the secret world of trees on Wednesday, November 11th at 7 pm by joining Darragh McCullough in conversation with Richard Nairn about his new book Wildwoods, published by Gill Books.

On Thursday, November 12th at 7 pm, celebrate the efforts of the creators and artists who have continued to produce stellar work despite these challenging times at the launch of the latest edition of essential anthology Winter Papers. Author and editor of Winter Papers Kevin Barry will be in conversation with three of its 2020 contributors, Tim MacGabhann, Roisin Kiberd, and Kerri Ní Dochartaigh. This event will also be available to watch live on RTÉ Culture.

Last but certainly not least, on Friday November 13th at 7pm, tune into an inspirational evening with Mary McAleese, where she will talk about her new memoir Here's the Story and offer invaluable and inspirational insights from her many years of public service - can tune into this one via RTÉ Culture, to boot.
