The audition clip, which was released exclusively to British Vogue, features the duo reading lines from episode two of the series, where Connell takes Marianne to the 'Ghost House' and the pair attempt to have a frank conversation about their relationship.
The chemistry read, which took place on March 5th, 2019, was set up with the intention of finding the perfect person to play the role of Marianne, as Mescal had already secured his role playing Connell Waldron.
The chemistry between the duo was undeniable from the offset, with Mescal saying: "I knew instantly she was going to be playing Marianne,"
Director, Lenny Abrahamson said: "Watching this clip again, I'm struck by how much of what sang in the finished scenes is there already. Daisy and Paul were so clearly right from the very beginning of the journey."
