Actor Caitríona Ní Mhurchú writes for RTÉ Culture about her new dramatic monologue Mise & Ise, which airs this Sunday on RTÉ Radio 1
D'fhoghlaimíos an dán Na Coisithe le Liam S Ó Gógáin do Shlógadh bliain fada amháin ó shin.
I gcoim na hoíche cloisim iad
Na coisithe ag siúl
Airím iad ní fheicim iad
Ní fios cá bhfuil a gcuaird
Agus sinn go léir ag siúl ag tús na paindéime do rith sé liom gurb an-oiriúnach an dán é don ré ait aduain ina bhfuilimid uilig ag maireachtaint.
We all became walkers when the virus struck.
When the 2km limit was issued, we walked corners and curves and lane ways we had never walked before. My young son and I. We became experts on the micro geography of our own area. Sometimes as we walked my son would exclaim – I remember this, from when I was a child. A child of ten remembering when they were a younger child again.
I had forgotten some of the landmarks he would point out.
I made a note to myself, to not forget this. These times. With him.
And it was on these walks , these walks we undertook together during these strange and bewildering times that Mise & Ise emerged.
Mise & Ise airs at 8.00pm this Sunday on RTÉ Radio 1
