This week's featured podcast on The Rolling Wave is an interview recorded last summer with fiddle player Martin Hayes.

Hayes grew up in Co. Clare surrounded by music. His father PJ Hayes and his uncle Paddy Canny were both wonderful fiddle players and as he explains in this interview, the scarcity of young players in the area at the time meant that the older musicians were very keen to pass on their knowledge and thoughts about the music.

They didn't teach the notes as much as their views on the philosophy of the music. Hayes also spoke to host Aoife Nic Cormaic about the importance of communication in music and why often the simplest tunes are the hardest to play.
