I picked up, to hear a deep, raspy male voice declaring "I got a letter! I got a letter!"
"Is that Stephen Joyce?" I said, delighted. "Thank you so much for getting back to me! So you got my letter about my documentary on Lucia Joyce?"
"I am 87 years old! I am 87 years old! Ireland has disgraced herself again!" came the reply.
He sounded furious.
Carefully, I ventured: "How has Ireland disgraced herself?"
