Irish documentary film The 8th has been selected to have its World Premiere at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, the largest documentary festival in North America.
Co-directed by Aideen Kane, Lucy Kennedy and Maeve O'Boyle, The 8th follows the female leaders of the pro-choice Repeal campaign in Ireland, including veteran campaigner Ailbhe Smyth, as well as interviews with members of the pro-life campaign.

It has earned selection within the festival's 'Persister' programme which constitutes films by women, about women speaking up and being heard.
"We are so proud that The 8th was selected to be part of this prestigious documentary festival," said O'Boyle.
"It is the first step in an international release campaign that will put this powerful story at the center of progressive reproductive debate."
The 8th, which was co-produced by Alan Maher's Cowtown Pictures, will be among more than 200 films from Canada and around the world that will be showcased at the festival, which has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic - find out more here.
