Members of the Royal Irish Academy of Music assembled virtually to perform a stunning (and rather ingenious) version of Seán Ó Riada's masterwork Mise Éire, a rousing tune for troubled times - watch the performance above, and read a message from Prof. James Cavanagh, RIAM Head of Performing Groups and Musical Director of Muide Éire, below:
Music evokes many sentiments and emotions—happiness, sadness, fear, and importantly in the current climate, hope.
Through the centuries, we have been fortunate that music in all its shapes and forms has been a positive binding and uniting force.
This has never been more true than in today's trying times.
We at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, along with our musician friends, offer this evocative music as a source of reflection, respite and hope to all, and particularly to the dedicated frontline workers in all walks of life.
Each musician has recorded their contribution over the recent days in their own homes using mobile phones and other basic recording equipment.
Muide Éire.
