In late 2019, Trad Ireland/Traid Éireann held a symposium in Dublin Castle with the aim of 'exploring opportunities in the traditional arts'.
The Rolling Wave on RTÉ Radio 1 was invited to take part, hosting a public interview with Martin Hayes and Steve Cooney, where they talked about their own experiences of becoming musicians and making their lives and their living in music - listen above...
Among their many suggestions for improving the lives of those involved in the traditional arts were calls for a huge increase in arts funding to more awareness in terms of conditions and contracts to the creation of a digital community which could offer support and advice for musicians in all aspects of their creativity and work. Lots of interesting food for thought!
