Steve Martin & Martin Short for Dublin & Belfast shows

A pair of comedy legends are coming to Dublin and Belfast next March - Steve Martin and Martin Short will make their Irish live debut when their The Funniest Show In Town At The Moment tour comes to Dublin's 3 Arena and Belfast's SSE Arena.

The duo first appeared together onscreen in the 1986 classic Three Amigos! and later reunited for the massively popular Father Of The Bride movies - in recent years, they've been touring the US as a double act, regaling audiences with a rapid-fire gag-fest that both celebrates and mocks their showbiz successes - all the while gamely roasting each other, to hilarious effect...

In a career spanning five decades, Steve Martin made his name in the '70s as a phenominally successful stand-up comedian, before graduating to the big screen in a series of iconic comedies, from '80s classics like The Jerk, Planes, Trains And Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Roxanne to family-friendly box-office smashes like Parenthood and the Cheaper By The Dozen movies. In recent years, he's received an honorary Oscar and enjoyed success as both author and playwright, while releasing several albums of banjo music, winning a Grammy Award in 2009 for Best Bluegrass Album for The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo.

An old school entertainer of the finest order, Martin Short first came to prominence in cult Canadian TV series SCTV and US comedy institution Saturday Night Live, before embarking on an eclectic career that has seen him star on Broadway, host his own US daytime talk show and pop up in everything from sitcoms like Arrested DevelopmentThe Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and How I Met Your Mother to movie roles in Tim Burton's Mars Attacks and Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice. Short, whose father originally hailed from Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh, memorably detailed his Irish roots in his bestselling memoir I Must Say: My Life As a Humble Comedy Legend.

For The Funniest Show In Town At The Moment, the duo will be joined onstage by bluegrass band - and regular Steve Martin collaborators - The Steep Canyon Rangers.

Steve Martin and Martin Short play 3Arena Dublin on 11 March 2020, and The SSE Arena Belfast on 12 March 2020 - tickets go on sale Friday 27 September at 10am from all usual outlets.
