In the late ‘80s, the creator of Spitting Image, John Lloyd, started to worry that he was doing something wrong.
The show was "absurdly big", holding steady between Eastenders and Coronation Street in terms of viewership figures. It had to be a sign that something was amiss.
John continued to do things wrong by creating or producing shows like Not the Nine O’ Clock News, QI, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio series and a little-known show called Blackadder.

He joined Baz Ashmawy on the line to talk about the difficulty of making satire when real life already feels like one, and why we still need shows like Spitting Image.
"I think it would do very well now if people had the courage to broadcast it. Because people need a way - sometimes when you’re in a difficult situation in the world, you need comedy to lighten the tone, you know?"
