Stephen King has surprised his fans with a brand new short story, posted to his website.
The story, entitled Laurie, is a touching look at the relationship betwen an old man and his new puppy, it's dedicated to the King family dog, Vixen, who passed away earlier this spring. While the description might not sound like typical King fare, fans need not worry - it still bears his unmistakable touch.
The author has described the 32-page story as 'an appetizer to the main course' - his latest crime novel, The Outsider, which is due for release later this month.
Several people have asked me about the dedication at the end of "Laurie," the story I posted. Vixen was my wife's dog. We all loved her, but she was a one-woman Corgi. A sweeter, gentler dog you'd never meet. She died early this spring. pic.twitter.com/QtWhu5sIOh

Four decades into his career, King remains as prolific and popular than ever; last year alone he published the fantasy novel Sleeping Beauties, co-written with his sone Eoin, while the big screen version of his 1986 novel It became the most successful horror movie of all time (the sequel is due in 2019) and small screen vehicle Mr. Mercedes, based upon his thriller and starring Brendan Gleeson, won critical raves and a second season renewal.

In his downtime - we can't quite believe that Stephen King has downtime - he also remains a rather vociferous critic of the current US government and a highly entertaining presence on Twitter.
The current White House staff is bad tempered, arrogant, insensitive, and largely incompetent. What does that say about the boss?
