The first wave of acts for this October's Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway has just been announced, with acclaimed US comic Patton Oswalt fronting a formidable international line-up of very funny people.
The 2017 Grammy Award Winner for Best Comedy Album, Oswalt's exclusive Galway date is a serious coup for the festival. The voice of Remy the rat in Pixar's Ratatouille and star of movies like Young Adult and the 2013 remake of The Secret life Of Walter Mitty, Oswalt has also featured in a number of popular US TV shows.
He has starred in everything from nine seasons of King Of Queens to serving as the (uncredited) narrator on current hit The Goldbergs, by way of Justified and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Veep, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the Netflix revival of classic cult show Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Another Galway exclusive is UK comic Katy Brand, who won a British Comedy award for her TV sketch series Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show - she'll be performing her hit Edinburgh Festival show I Was a Teenage Christian.
It recounts the true story of how one Sunday, aged 13, she went to a local church service and became a fundamentalist Christian. Other acts announced for Galway thus far include Al Porter, Dermot & Dave and Reginald D Hunter.
Elsewhere, popular Dublin-based sister event The Vodafone Comedy Festival takes place at The Iveagh Gardens from July 27 to 30, with a bill that includes Irish A-listers Tommy Tiernan, Jason Byrne, Dara O'Briain and Maeve Higgins alongside international talents like Tim Key, TJ Miller, Michael Ian Black and Colin Quinn.
The Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway runs from October 24-30 - more details on the programme here.
