Kelly-Anne Byrne has earned a reputation as one of the finest selectors on the air waves and one of Ireland’s top DJ’s - now she's spinning discs at this year's Body&Soul festival.
The presenter of The Beat Goes On (Sat/Sun nights on Today FM) Kelly-Anne has been DJing in Dublin for the past decade; once a resident of Mother Club, she plays all the capital's hot spots, from Hangar to to The Workman's Club, and has DJ'ed at music festivals from Sea Sessions to Electric Picnic.
Here are Kelly-Anne’s top 5 acts to watch at Body&Soul 2017:
I’m crazy about the latest New Jackson record From Night To Night, it’s one of the best releases of 2017 so far for me. I really respect David Kitt and the way in which he embraces so many different kinds of music on this album and in his solo career. I’ve no doubt New Jackson will blow the roof off the place.
I’ve seen Sinkane twice now and he’s always incredible live, there’s a huge African influence in his music, but he also blends funk, soul, rock and electronic as with his latest record Life & Livin’ It. Be ready to dance your socks off.
Two of the greatest djs in the world for me, Jonnie Wilkes and Keith McIvor celebrate 20 years of Optimo this year. What I admire the most about them is that they do whatever they want, you might hear a techno record mixed into The Clash, I once heard them end their set on Ben E King’s Stand By Me. This is definitely not to be missed.
Dublin duo Ships (Sorcha McGrath and Simon Cullen) are one of the best acts in the country for me at the moment. Their new album Precession is stunning, synth pop mixed with 80’s disco. They’re also extremely accomplished musicians so expect to hear a great show.
Get Down Edits
Waterford’s finest Get Down Edits (Martin Roche and Darren Daz Dalton) play the Absolut Stage on Sunday, I’ve honestly never heard them play a bad set, expect to hear disco, house and classic soul. I’m so happy to see them play top gigs abroad like Glitterbox and Glastonbury, no one deserves it more.
Kelly-Anne Byrne plays the Body&Soul festival, 23rd - 25th June 2017, Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath.
