Seamus Murphy is an Irish photographer based in London. A recipient of seven World Press photo awards for his work in Afghanistan, Gaza, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Peru and Ireland, he is a regular contributor to all major international news publications.
Murphy has worked with musician PJ Harvey on several film and photography projects including their most recent collaboration, a book titled The Hollow of the Hand. His latest book The Republic, an immediate and personal portrait of Ireland, was published in March 2016.
Home is another Place is an exhibition which expands on The Republic. Returning to Ireland after the recession to view a country and her capital changing dramatically, Seamus has created a new collection of images that show us a nation existing far beyond the often binary gaze of the media – a country teeming with life, humour, absurdity, pathos, hardship, tenacity and love. At the heart of these images of our fellow countrymen and women, we find ourselves.
