Jack Lukeman is one of Ireland's most celebrated vocalists. Jack's new album Magic Days is set for release on Friday 27 January 2017, and he plays Whelans in Dublin tonight (Friday December 2nd), with two further pre-Xmas shows at Whelans on December 21-22.
Film
I recently saw Arrival which is a really intelligent and engaging sci-fi movies about the arrival of Aliens and the complexities of finding a common language to communicate with them. (A bit like life haha) It was great to see a movie that didn't end in endless explosions and everything turned up louder than everything else for a change.
Music
I'm listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen. He is without a doubt one of the top songwriters and poets of them all. A great inspiration, and though he's gone his wise poems live on.
Book
I'm reading an interesting book by Jonathan Black called The Sacred History, about the origins of myth and religion and folklore not unlike Joseph Campbell's stuff. Though it may sound heavy, it's really fun and exciting to read.
Play
I recently saw Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? at the Gate Theatre. I had only seen the Burton-Taylor movie and I actually enjoyed the play more. It was a lot funnier than the movie, which is like one long drunk argument
TV
I don't get to watch TV much as I'm always travelling, but I have been taping a few things which runs from Westworld to Bill Maher's Real Time to the Waltons. I saw Attenborough's Planet Earth 2 recently too - truly amazing. Also Adam Curtis' documentary HyperNormalisation:
Gig
I'm supporting the Jools Holland Big Band on tour at the moment and get to see him and his amazing 20-piece band on a regular basis. It contains some of the finest musicians alive today like Gilson Lavis on drums. He does a solo every night that blows my mind>
Art
I enjoyed The Works programme about the photography of John Minihan, who took the famous Beckett photos, to name but some of his classic work. If you can get his book Shadows from the Pale it's a treasure.
Tech
I like the app Star Walk, that acts as a telescope to the stars on your phone. It's totally educational and psychedelic all at the same time
The Next Big Thing
Seeing as everyone's lost in the wonderland of computer screens all the time now I'm putting my money on the rediscovery of the real world as the next big thing. Hula Hoops are coming back too.
