David Lynch's amnesiac neo-noir thriller Mulholland Drive has been named as the Best Movie of the Century so far in a landmark poll of film critics.

The poll was commissioned by the editors of BBC Culture and got the views of 177 film critics from around the world to determine the 100 greatest films of the 21st Century so far.

Those surveyed ranged from magazine reviewers to academics to cinema curators, and the results may cause considerable debate. Then again, there's always something to moan about, eh?

Mulholland Drive, starring Naomi Watts, Justin Theroux and Laura Harring took the top spot, narrowly beating runner-up Wong Kar-Wai's In the Mood for Love (2000) a Korean movie about the clandestine love affair between two married people.

Academy Award nominees There Will Be Blood and Boyhood also finished high in the rankings in the top five, while the Coen brother's No Country for Old Men just made it into the top ten.

The top placed Irish movie in the top 100 was Brooklyn which made it to number 46 on the list. The movie, which starred Saoirse Ronan and Domhnall Gleeson was nominated in the Best Picture category at this year's Oscars.
