Panti Bliss to cause a Riot at Tiger Dublin Fringe

Panti Bliss. I predict a Riot
Panti Bliss. I predict a Riot

We predict a riot when Panti Bliss takes to the stage in this year's Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival.

No, Ireland's favourite drag queen isn't out to cause a major public disturbance, it's just that Riot is the name of the spectacular Fringe show from theatre group THISISPOPBABY that will feature Panti and a host of other comedy, drag and circus performers.

"Riot is a show that's going to be on in the Dublin Fringe, which is on in the second two weeks of September," explains Panti's alter ego, Rory O'Neill. "It's going to be in the Spiegeltent in Merrion Square every night of the festival, and it's like a cross between circus and cabaret and theatre.

"There's a few ensemble parts, where we're all doing stuff together, but then Panti is doing a few spoken word parts, giving some rousing speeches to get everybody to riot. And I'm doing a fun sort of lip-sync piece thing as well."

Riot runs for eleven nights during the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival from September 14 to 25.

And starting tonight (Tuesday, Aug 23), Panti Bliss hosts an irreverent new talk-show on RTÉ Radio 1, called Pantisocracy.

It kicks-off at 10pm and Rory describes it as "a cabaret of conversation" with five guests, a live studio audience and some music thrown in as well for good measure.

He claims that Pantisocracy is an actual real word (let's go with it) meaning "a society where everyone is entirely equal", which is a pretty good basis for any gathering.
