You heard us - RTÉ's new Culture page. To begin with, relax. This is only the beginning. Ideally, of something beautiful. Let's call it Culture version 1.0, shall we?
While we're at it, what defines 'culture' exactly? A very good question. Our bailiwick stretches far and wide. We aim to explore the entire culture spectrum, in all its diverse glory, from film, theatre and literature to music, dance and art - and that's just for starters. We also intend to celebrate Irish art and artists, and their ongoing achievements globally, at any and every given opportunity, while showcasing the best of RTÉ's own culture-related output. This purpose of this page, as it grows and evolves is to offer regular snapshots from the cultural frontlines, while pointing you in the direction of the next must-see, must-read or must-listen. What's more, we want to know all about your cultural habits - we do love a recommendation.
Once a year, Ireland celebrates Culture Night, an occasion whereupon the nation's venues throw open their doors in a wanton celebration of creativity. This year's Culture Night falls on Friday, September 16th, and we recommend you attend as many events in your locality as possible. It's a truly glorious occasion, accessible to the core and encompassing every imaginable age, gender, colour or creed. That same spirit informs what we're doing here.
Ultimately, it's all about sharing enthusiasms. And we're wild about culture. So stick with us, we'll be failing better on a regular basis from this point on.
