The All-Ireland Camogie Championship had no shortage of thrills and spills, having finished with Galway edging Cork in a gripping finale, following some tight contests throughout the competition.
The All-Star team will be announced at the PwC Camogie All-Stars Awards in Croke Park on Saturday, 15th November, with some familiar faces vying for the opportunity to make the final 15.
More than half the spots have been taken by this year's finalists. The eventual All-Ireland winners, Galway, have ten players nominated, while runner-ups Cork have 11 nominees
Semi-finalists Waterford and Tipperary have six and five nominations respectively, Kilkenny saw three players picked, while Clare round it off with one nomination.
The strength of the inter-county squads sees 16 players making the list for a second consecutive year.
Cork saw seven of its players make the cut: Amy Lee, Laura Treacy, Saoirse McCarthy, Amy O’Connor, Orlaith Cahalane, Katrina Mackey, and Laura Hayes who was crowned Senior Player of the Year 2024.
Galway has five appearing again, with Sarah Healy, Dervla Higgins, Rachael Hanniffy, Ciara Hickey and Aoife Donohue appearing on the list, while Waterford and Tipperary have two each: Brianna O’Regan and Beth Carton for The Déise, while Róisín Howard and Karen Kennedy represent the Premier County.
Up for the goalkeeper slot are Sarah Healy of Galway, who played an instrumental role in their All-Ireland victory, as well as Amy Lee of Cork, and Brianna O’Regan of Waterford.
There’s a lot of competition for the lineup in defence with Róisín Black, Rachael Hanniffy, and Shauna Healy repping the Tribeswomen.
Méabh Cahalane, Libby Coppinger, Laura Hayes, and Laura Treacy are leading the charge for Cork, while the remaining nominations are Ciara Hickey and Dervla Higgins of Galway, Mairead Eviston of Tipperary, Vikki Falconer of Waterford, Laura Murphy of Kilkenny, and Clare Hehir, being the sole representative from Clare.
In midfield, the competition is fierce with Lorraine Bray (Waterford), Aoife Donohue (Galway), Laura Greene (Kilkenny), Karen Kennedy (Tipperary), and Ashling Thompson (Cork) all in contention.
The forward line has five nominations from Cork: Orlaith Cahalane, Katrina Mackey, Saoirse McCarthy, Emma Murphy, and Amy O’Connor.
Both Galway and Waterford have three nominations. For Galway, captain Carrie Dolan gets a spot in the list, helping her team clinch the All-Ireland final with a terrific 63rd-minute point from a free, and appears alongside Niamh Mallon and Ailish O’Reilly.
Waterford’s Beth Carton, Abby Flynn, and Niamh Rockett make the list, each putting in a strong performance in the All-Ireland semi-final, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Cork.
Tipperary sees Róisín Howard and Grace O’Brien make the short-list, while Katie Power comes in representing Kilkenny.
The strength of the All-Star line-up means that who ends up making the final cut will be anyone’s guess, and all will be unveiled at Croke Park on 15th November.
