Traffic

ROAD CONDITIONS

Another foggy start to the day mainly in the south-east of the country, and around Sligo Town and Mullingar in Westmeath too. Make sure to slow down and use fog lights in affected areas, but always remember to switch them off afterwards so you don’t dazzle other drivers.

COVID-19 TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS 

Until midnight on Fri 20th Aug, travel restrictions are in place in counties Kildare, Laois and Offaly in order to slow the spread of Covid-19. 

Only essential journeys may be made in those counties for the duration. You may pass through the counties to get to somewhere else, but only stop for essential reasons. Those living in these counties should not leave their county, except to travel for work that cannot be done from home, or for vital medical or family care reasons.

NATIONAL TRAFFIC 

CORK: In Midleton, Main St (R907) is closed to traffic heading north through the town as emergency services deal with a building fire. Diversions are in place.  

KILDARE: Emergency services are dealing with an overturned vehicle on the N7 westbound near J7 Kill blocking the left lane. Take care if you must make a journey there this morning.

There are some delays both ways approaching works on the Clane/Sallins Rd (R407), south of Clane itself. 

KERRY: The Ballylongford/Tarbert Rd (R551) is fully open this morning following a collision there yesterday (11th).

LAOIS: The N80 is busy both ways approaching works just north of Arles. 

KILKENNY: There are delays on the N76 at a set of works on the Kilkenny City side of Cuffesgrange.

MAYO: Works will take place on the N5 Westport Rd just outside Castlebar until later today (12th).

WATERFORD: A bridge lift is scheduled for 11:15am this morning (12th) for Rice Bridge in Waterford City.

DUBLIN TRAFFIC

Watch out for changes to road layouts in Dublin city centre and, if driving, be extra mindful of pedestrians and cyclists who may need more room for physical distancing.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

While many public transport timetables have returned to normal, keep in mind that capacity is reduced on most services to allow for physical distancing. You are now required by law to wear a face covering and it’s advisable to pay your fare through contactless methods.

IRISH RAIL: Due to engineering works between Cork, Cobh and Midleton, some evening services will operate as bus transfers until Fri 21st Aug. Check here for more. 

Revised and reduced schedules remain in operation on all Intercity and Commuter routes, and on weekend DART services. Some services are still not running, including those from Waterford to Limerick Jct and from Limerick to Ballybrophy. Check the Irish Rail website for more information.

DUBLIN BUS: Due to the new one-way traffic system in Dundrum Village, diversions are now in place on Dublin Bus services 14, 44 and 44b. For more details, see the Dublin Bus website here.

Dublin Bus is now operating to a normal Monday to Friday timetable. There are, however, exceptions to some routes and Xpresso services. See the Dublin Bus website for more.

AHEAD:
Diversions are in place on routes 75, 75a and 175 due to the new one-way system in Dundrum Village. More details can be found here

ROADWORKS 

ULSTER

CAVAN: The Ballyconnell/Derrylin Rd (R205) will be closed for works between Ballyconnell itself and the Fermanagh county bounds until Friday (14th).

CAVAN: The N87 will close for works about halfway between Ballyconnell and Staghall until Fri 30th Oct, between 9:15am and 8pm each day. Diversions will be in place.

CAVAN: Lane restrictions and a stop/go system will be in place for works on the N3 on the Cavan Town side of Virginia until approx. Sunday (16th).

DONEGAL: A reduced speed limit of 50kmph remains in place for works on the N56 north of Glenties between Letterilly and Kilkenny until approx. 2021. 

DONEGAL: The N56 outside Inver will be down to one lane for works between Inver Bridge and the Frosses Rd (R262) jct until approx. the end of October.

DONEGAL: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N14 between Lifford and the Raphoe turn-off (R236) until Wed 19th Aug.

LEINSTER

DUBLIN: Works will take place in both directions between the Loughlinstown R/A on the N11 and J5 Bray North on the M11 until Friday (14th) each night from 10pm to 5am the following morning.

DUBLIN: Queen’s Rd in Dún Laoghaire will be closed between Park Rd jct and the library each weekend until Sun 30th Aug to facilitate an event. The route will close from midnight on Fridays until midnight on Sundays.

DUBLIN: In Dundrum Village, a new one-way traffic system will be in place on Main St, Sandyford Rd and Kilmacud Rd Upr to provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists and to facilitate public amenity improvements. As a result, there will be diversions in place for bus services and traffic until further notice. 

DUBLIN: There are some changes to road layouts in the Grangegorman area: Grangegorman Lwr is now only open to pedestrians and cyclists as a through-route, while motor vehicles may only use it for local access and will otherwise be diverted. Turning restrictions have also been put in place on the NCR and North Brunswick St. Take extra care if driving in the area and watch out for new signage.

DUBLIN: Cruagh Rd (R116) in Rathfarnham will close for works today (12th), from 9am to 5pm. Motorists can use Edmonstown Rd (R116), Mount Venus Rd (R113) or the Killakee Rd (R115) as alternative routes.

DUBLIN: From today (12th) to Friday (14th), the M1 northbound will close overnight works at J3 Swords, 10pm to 6am the following day. Traffic will be diverted at the off-ramp at J2 Dublin Airport and onto the Dublin Rd (R132). 

DUBLIN: Edmondstown Rd (R116) will close for works today (12th) and tomorrow (13th), 9am to 5pm each day. Diversions will be signposted.

DUBLIN: Both bores of the Port Tunnel will be closed for overnight maintenance from 10pm tonight (12th) to 5am tomorrow (13th). HGV's are advised to use Alfie Byrne Rd.

KILDARE: The Kildare/Crookstown Rd (R415) will be closed to facilitate works just outside Kildare itself until Sun 30th Aug. Diversions will be in place.

KILKENNY: Two set of works are in place on the N76 between Callan and Cuffesgrange until Wed 30th Sept. Expect delays.

LAOIS: Rolling works will be in place between J18 Portlaoise West on the M7 and J3 Rathdowney on the M8 until Fri 30th Oct. Lane closures and stop/go systems will be in place on the ramps and roundabouts at each junction.  

LAOIS/OFFALY: The Tullamore/Kinnitty Rd (R421) will be closed for works between the Mountbolus and Clonaslee turn-offs from 8am to 6pm today (12th).

LAOIS/OFFALY: A stop/go system will be in place on the N80 for works approx. half way between Tullamore and Mountmellick until Friday (14th), from 8am to 5pm each day.

LONGFORD: The Ballymahon/Lanesborough Rd (R392) will be closed for works north of Ballymahon near the turn off for Keenagh until later today (12th).

LONGFORD: The Newtowncashel/Moydow Rd (R398) will be closed for works between the Keenagh turn-off and Derryhaun until Friday (14th). Diversions will be in place via the Lanesborough/Ballymahon Rd (R392) and Ballymacormack/Ballymahon Rd (R397).

LOUTH: Overnight works will take place on the N1 southbound at J19 Ravensdale from 10pm tonight (12th) to 6am tomorrow (13th).

MEATH: A stop/go system will be in place on the N51 for works from 3km west of Slane until further notice.

MEATH: Works are in place in Navan on the Kentstown Rd (R153) at the Metges Rd jct. Varying lane restrictions will be in place until further notice.

MEATH: The on and off-ramps of the M3 at J5 Dunboyne will be closed for overnight works on both the northbound and southbound carriageways on weekday nights (10pm to 6am) until Fri 28th August. Diversions will be in place.

WESTMEATH: A temporary road layout will be in place for works on the N52 approx. halfway between Delvin and Mullingar until Oct 2020.

WICKLOW: Until Friday (14th), overnight works will take place on the M11 both ways at J5 Bray North from 10pm to 5am the next day

WICKLOW: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place for works on the N11 in both directions between J7 Bray South and J8 Kilmacanogue until approx. February 2021.

WICKLOW: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place for works on the N81 just south of Hollywood until Wed 11th Nov.

MUNSTER

CORK: Until Thurs 20th Aug, overnight works will take place at the junction of the N72 Park Rd, N72 Bridge St and Mallow Bridge in Mallow town, 8pm to 6am the following day. Local diversions will be in place via Ward Tce (R619).

CORK: The Rathbarry Rd (R598) will be closed for works just off the N71 until 8pm on Mon 31st Aug. Traffic will be diverted via Owenahincha Beach.

CORK: The Newmarket/Ballydesmond Rd (R578) will be closed for works between Newmarket and the turn-off for Taur until 8pm on Fri 14th Aug.

CORK: Lane closures are in place for works on the Cork Rd in Bandon (part of the N71 route) near the roundabout on the Inishannon side of the town, until further notice.

CORK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N71 in Bandon just before the Glasslyn Rd jct until Tues 18th Aug.

CORK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N71 east of Ballydehob at Aughadown today (12th), 8am to 6pm.

CORK: The regional road between Newmarket and Ballydesmond (R578) will close for works just east of Ballydesmond itself at Clamper Cross until Fri 14th Aug. Diversions will be in place.

CORK: The Macroom/Toonsbridge Rd (R584) will be closed for works until Fri 21st Aug between the hours of 8am and 8pm. Diversions will be in place via Beal na Blath.

CORK: The Newmarket/Charleville Rd (R578) will close for works at Tarrant’s Cross in Freemount until 8pm on Thurs 20th Aug. Diversions will be in place.

CLARE: There will be a number of layout changes to roads in Ennis Town Centre from now until Wed 19th May 2021. The changes will be in place Mon to Sat from 8am to 6pm. This is to allow for social distancing practices in the town. Diversions will be signposted and parking will be affected as well.

KERRY: Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the N21 on the Abbeyfeale side of Castleisland until Fri 14th Aug.

KERRY: The Tralee/Ballyduff Rd (R556) is closed for works approx. halfway between the two towns.

KERRY: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place on the N71 Ring of Kerry between Kenmare and Moll's Gap to facilitate works until Thurs 8th July 2021.

LIMERICK: The on and off ramps of the M7 westbound at J29 Ballysimon will close for works each weeknight until Thurs 24th Sept between 7pm and 6am the following morning. Diversions will be signposted.

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N21 between Abbeyfeale and Templeglantine at the Dromcolliher turn-off at Devon Cross between 8am and 8pm each day, until Friday (14th).

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N69 at Kilcornan until approx. the end of August. 

LIMERICK: Lane closures will be in place for works on O'Connell St in Limerick City between the William St and Cecil St jcts until Fri 14th Aug. 

TIPPERARY: A stop/go system will remain in place until further notice on the N24 in Clonmel, between the Moangarriff and Cahir Rd roundabouts between 7pm and 7am each night. 

TIPPERARY: A stop/go system will be in place for works in Borrisokane at the junction of the N52 and the N65 until Tues 18th Aug, 8am to 6pm each day.

TIPPERARY: In Thurles, Liberty Square (part of the N75 route) will be closed for overnight works until Thurs 24th Sept. The closure will be in place from 8pm each evening until 6am each following morning and diversions will be in place.

TIPPERARY: The Nenagh/Borrisoleigh Rd (R498) will close for emergency works at Latteragh until 6pm Fri 21st Aug. Traffic from Nenagh will be diverted via Roscrea (R445) and the N62. Traffic from Thurles will be diverted via Borrisoleigh (R501) and the N62.

WATERFORD: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N72 about halfway between Cappoquin and Dungarvan near the turn-off for Ballynamult (R671) until Friday (14th). 

WATERFORD: Today (12th), the Dungarvan/Carrick on Suir Rd (R676) will close north of Lemybrien for works. Diversions will be in place.

CONNACHT

GALWAY: The Castleblakeney/Menlough Rd (R339) will close for works until Tues 18th Aug, 8am to 6pm each weekday. Use alternative routes.

GALWAY: Temporary traffic lights and a reduced speed limit of 50kmph are in place on the N67 just outside Kinvara on the Kilcolgan side until approx. June 2021.

GALWAY: Rolling works will be taking place along the N59 starting at Moycullen and moving west towards Letterfrack. These will be in place until approx. early September.

GALWAY: A stop/go system will be in place for rolling works at various locations on the N59 between east of Clifden and Letterfrack until Mon 14th Sept.

GALWAY: Works are taking place on the N59 on the Oughterard side of Maam Cross until early 2021. 

LEITRIM: The Kinlough/Kiltyclogher Rd (R281) will be closed for works between Kinlough and Rossinver today (12th), from 8am to 5pm. Traffic will be diverted via Manorhamilton.

LEITRIM: Rolling works will be in place on the N4 east of Carrick-on-Shannon between Jamestown and the Mohill turn-off (R201) until early September.

LEITRIM: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph remains in place on the N16 on a stretch between Manorhamilton and Glencar until December.

MAYO: Works will take place on the N5 Westport Rd just outside Castlebar until later today (12th).

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N59 Mulranny Rd north of Newport today (12th).

MAYO: Overnight works will take place on the N5 Humbert Way in Castlebar between the Station Rd R/A and the Westport Rd R/A until Sun 23rd Aug, 7pm to 7am the following morning. 

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N17 south of Knock Airport at Kilkelly until further notice.

MAYO: Temporary traffic lights are in place for works on the N59 at Kilmeena, approx. 4km from Westport on the Newport side, until further notice.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place on the N58 between Ballylahan and Foxford until further notice.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N26 between Foxford and Ballina until Friday (14th).

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place at various locations on the N60 for rolling roadworks between Castlebar and Claremorris until further notice.

ROSCOMMON: The N61 will be closed for works between the N5 jct at Tulsk and the Strokestown turn-off (R368) until Fri 25th Sept. Traffic will be diverted via Strokestown itself.

ROSCOMMON: Temporary traffic lights will be in place for works on the N60 halfway between Roscommon Town and Ballymoe at Oran until further notice.

ROSCOMMON: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N5 at Tulsk until Mon 31st Aug.

SLIGO: Works are taking place in Sligo Town at the junction of the N4, N15 and N16 - there has been a change to the road layout for northbound traffic turning left onto the Rosses Point Rd (R291), and the N15 southbound is closed at this junction. The N4 northbound is also closed from Ballast Quay to Duck St, part of the N16, until further notice. 

SLIGO: Works will be in place on the N15 northbound in Rathcormac Village until further notice. 

SLIGO: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will remain in place on three stretches of the N4 between Collooney and Castlebaldwin until works can be completed: at the Tobar Bhríde R/A outside Collooney, between Riverstown turn-off and Castlebaldwin, and just south of Castlebaldwin Village.

SLIGO: In Sligo Town, Knappagh Rd (R292) will close for works near Sligo Rovers FC today (12th), 7am to 7pm. Alternative routes will be in place via Larkhill Rd, Maugheraboy Rd, Church Hill and the N4 Inner Relief Road. Local access will be maintained.

WICKLOW: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place for works on the N81 just south of Hollywood until Wed 11th Nov.

MUNSTER

CORK: Until Thurs 20th Aug, overnight works will take place at the junction of the N72 Park Rd, N72 Bridge St and Mallow Bridge in Mallow town, 8pm to 6am the following day. Local diversions will be in place via Ward Tce (R619).

CORK: The Rathbarry Rd (R598) will be closed for works just off the N71 until 8pm on Mon 31st Aug. Traffic will be diverted via Owenahincha Beach.

CORK: The Newmarket/Ballydesmond Rd (R578) will be closed for works between Newmarket and the turn-off for Taur until 8pm on Fri 14th Aug.

CORK: Lane closures are in place for works on the Cork Rd in Bandon (part of the N71 route) near the roundabout on the Inishannon side of the town, until further notice.

CORK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N71 in Bandon just before the Glasslyn Rd jct until Tues 18th Aug.

CORK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N71 east of Ballydehob at Aughadown today (12th), 8am to 6pm.

CORK: The regional road between Newmarket and Ballydesmond (R578) will close for works just east of Ballydesmond itself at Clamper Cross until Fri 14th Aug. Diversions will be in place.

CORK: The Macroom/Toonsbridge Rd (R584) will be closed for works until Fri 21st Aug between the hours of 8am and 8pm. Diversions will be in place via Beal na Blath.

CORK: The Newmarket/Charleville Rd (R578) will close for works at Tarrant’s Cross in Freemount until 8pm on Thurs 20th Aug. Diversions will be in place.

CLARE: There will be a number of layout changes to roads in Ennis Town Centre from now until Wed 19th May 2021. The changes will be in place Mon to Sat from 8am to 6pm. This is to allow for social distancing practices in the town. Diversions will be signposted and parking will be affected as well.

KERRY: Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the N21 on the Abbeyfeale side of Castleisland until Fri 14th Aug.

KERRY: The Tralee/Ballyduff Rd (R556) is closed for works approx. halfway between the two towns.

KERRY: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place on the N71 Ring of Kerry between Kenmare and Moll's Gap to facilitate works until Thurs 8th July 2021.

LIMERICK: The on and off ramps of the M7 westbound at J29 Ballysimon will close for works each weeknight until Thurs 24th Sept between 7pm and 6am the following morning. Diversions will be signposted.

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N21 between Abbeyfeale and Templeglantine at the Dromcolliher turn-off at Devon Cross between 8am and 8pm each day, until Friday (14th).

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N69 at Kilcornan until approx. the end of August. 

LIMERICK: Lane closures will be in place for works on O'Connell St in Limerick City between the William St and Cecil St jcts until Fri 14th Aug. 

TIPPERARY: A stop/go system will remain in place until further notice on the N24 in Clonmel, between the Moangarriff and Cahir Rd roundabouts between 7pm and 7am each night. 

TIPPERARY: A stop/go system will be in place for works in Borrisokane at the junction of the N52 and the N65 until Tues 18th Aug, 8am to 6pm each day.

TIPPERARY: In Thurles, Liberty Square (part of the N75 route) will be closed for overnight works until Thurs 24th Sept. The closure will be in place from 8pm each evening until 6am each following morning and diversions will be in place.

TIPPERARY: The Nenagh/Borrisoleigh Rd (R498) will close for emergency works at Latteragh until 6pm Fri 21st Aug. Traffic from Nenagh will be diverted via Roscrea (R445) and the N62. Traffic from Thurles will be diverted via Borrisoleigh (R501) and the N62.

WATERFORD: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N72 about halfway between Cappoquin and Dungarvan near the turn-off for Ballynamult (R671) until Friday (14th). 

WATERFORD: Today (12th), the Dungarvan/Carrick on Suir Rd (R676) will close north of Lemybrien for works. Diversions will be in place.

CONNACHT

GALWAY: The Castleblakeney/Menlough Rd (R339) will close for works until Tues 18th Aug, 8am to 6pm each weekday. Use alternative routes.

GALWAY: Temporary traffic lights and a reduced speed limit of 50kmph are in place on the N67 just outside Kinvara on the Kilcolgan side until approx. June 2021.

GALWAY: Rolling works will be taking place along the N59 starting at Moycullen and moving west towards Letterfrack. These will be in place until approx. early September.

GALWAY: A stop/go system will be in place for rolling works at various locations on the N59 between east of Clifden and Letterfrack until Mon 14th Sept.

GALWAY: Works are taking place on the N59 on the Oughterard side of Maam Cross until early 2021. 

LEITRIM: The Kinlough/Kiltyclogher Rd (R281) will be closed for works between Kinlough and Rossinver today (12th), from 8am to 5pm. Traffic will be diverted via Manorhamilton.

LEITRIM: Rolling works will be in place on the N4 east of Carrick-on-Shannon between Jamestown and the Mohill turn-off (R201) until early September.

LEITRIM: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph remains in place on the N16 on a stretch between Manorhamilton and Glencar until December.

MAYO: Works will take place on the N5 Westport Rd just outside Castlebar until later today (12th).

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N59 Mulranny Rd north of Newport today (12th).

MAYO: Overnight works will take place on the N5 Humbert Way in Castlebar between the Station Rd R/A and the Westport Rd R/A until Sun 23rd Aug, 7pm to 7am the following morning. 

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N17 south of Knock Airport at Kilkelly until further notice.

MAYO: Temporary traffic lights are in place for works on the N59 at Kilmeena, approx. 4km from Westport on the Newport side, until further notice.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place on the N58 between Ballylahan and Foxford until further notice.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N26 between Foxford and Ballina until Friday (14th).

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place at various locations on the N60 for rolling roadworks between Castlebar and Claremorris until further notice.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N5 on the Westport side of Castlebar until further notice.

ROSCOMMON: The N61 will be closed for works between the N5 jct at Tulsk and the Strokestown turn-off (R368) until Fri 25th Sept. Traffic will be diverted via Strokestown itself.

ROSCOMMON: Temporary traffic lights will be in place for works on the N60 halfway between Roscommon Town and Ballymoe at Oran until further notice.

ROSCOMMON: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N5 at Tulsk until Mon 31st Aug.

SLIGO: Works are taking place in Sligo Town at the junction of the N4, N15 and N16 - there has been a change to the road layout for northbound traffic turning left onto the Rosses Point Rd (R291), and the N15 southbound is closed at this junction. The N4 northbound is also closed from Ballast Quay to Duck St, part of the N16, until further notice. 

SLIGO: Works will be in place on the N15 northbound in Rathcormac Village until further notice. 

SLIGO: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will remain in place on three stretches of the N4 between Collooney and Castlebaldwin until works can be completed: at the Tobar Bhríde R/A outside Collooney, between Riverstown turn-off and Castlebaldwin, and just south of Castlebaldwin Village.

SLIGO: In Sligo Town, Knappagh Rd (R292) will close for works near Sligo Rovers FC today (12th), 7am to 7pm. Alternative routes will be in place via Larkhill Rd, Maugheraboy Rd, Church Hill and the N4 Inner Relief Road. Local access will be maintained.
