Traffic

NATIONAL TRAFFIC 

CAVAN: The N87 will close for works about halfway between Staghall and Ballyconnell near Cranaghan on Tues (18th), between 9:15am and 8pm each day.

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N20 at Banogue Cross until Fri 4th June.

ROSCOMMON/LEITRIM: Temporary traffic lights will be in place for works on the N4 between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon until Friday (21st) from 8am to 5pm each day.

DUBLIN TRAFFIC

If you’re travelling somewhere for the first time in a while, bear in mind that some road layouts have changed, particularly within Dublin city centre. If driving, be extra mindful of pedestrians and cyclists who may need more room for physical distancing.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Intercounty journeys are now permitted across the island, but there are a few things to note if you’re opting for public transport. You are required by law to wear a face covering, it’s advisable to pay your fare through contactless methods and most operators have reduced capacity (50%). 

TIMETABLE INFO:

IRISH RAIL: Engineering works will continue between Birdhill and Roscrea until Sunday (23rd) with bus transfers in place on services between Limerick/Ballybrophy/Nenagh as a result.

Irish Rail services have returned to the normal Monday to Friday timetables, which can be viewed here. These timetables will replace the reduced schedules that had been in place. A reminder that if you’re travelling via Intercity then you must book travel in advance. 

BUS ÉIREANN: For all service updates and to plan your journey see the Bus Éireann website. You are advised to book online for Expressway services.

DUBLIN BUS: Dublin Bus services have returned to the normal Monday to Friday timetables (rather than the enhanced Saturday timetables that had been in place). There will be exceptions to some routes and Xpresso services. Full information can be viewed here.

LUAS: Services will operate to normal schedules on both lines. See here to plan your journey.

Roadworks

ROADWORKS 

ULSTER:

CAVAN: The N87 will close for works about halfway between Staghall and Ballyconnell near Cranaghan on Tues (18th), between 9:15am and 8pm each day.

DONEGAL: A new temporary road layout is in place for works on the N56 on the Narin side of Glenties until further notice. There are also stop/go systems and a reduced speed limit of 50kmph on this stretch

DONEGAL: Works are in place on the N56 between Dungloe and Lettermacaward (known locally as Leitir) until approx. December.

MONAGHAN: Restrictions are in place in Carrickmacross for HGVs. Vehicles with 3-axles or greater will be restricted from travelling along Main St between the hours of 8am and 5am, Monday to Sunday. Signage will be in place.

LEINSTER:

DUBLIN: Overnight works will be in place on the M50 southbound at J7 Lucan until Fri 4th June, from 10pm each night until 6am the following morning.

DUBLIN: The North Rd in the Phoenix Park will be closed for works between the Odd Lamp Rd and Garda Head Quarters until Fri 18th June. All pedestrian gates along this route will be closed for the duration, including the Cabra and Grangegorman Gates.

KILDARE: In Newbridge, a stop/go system will be in place for works on the Athgarvan Rd (R445) at the Military Rd jct until further notice.

KILDARE: A new M7 junction, J9a Sallins, is now open between the two Naas exits - 9 and 10. Take caution on this stretch of the M7, as traffic will now be merging here too. The new Sallins Bypass has also opened – linking the Clane/Naas Rd (R407) to the new M7 junction. A new Sallins Link Rd, connecting Sallins Village to the bypass, will open later following the completion of works at Millbank.

LAOIS: A stop/go system will be in place on the N80 outside Portlaoise on the town side of the Bloomfield R/A until Fri 28th May, between 7:30am and 6pm each day.

LAOIS: The Crettyard/Portlaoise Rd (R426) will be closed for works between The Swan and Timahoe until 6pm on Tues (18th). Diversions will be in place via Abbeyleix.

LAOIS: The Abbeyleix/Ballyragget Rd (R432) will be closed for works between Abbeyleix itself and Ballinakill on Wednesday (19th), from 8am to 6pm on both days.

LAOIS: Rolling lane restrictions will be in place along the N80 in Portlaoise between St Peter and Paul's Church in the town centre and Ballymacken Ind Est until approx the end of July. Diversions will be in place at times for inbound traffic, so watch out for signage.

LAOIS: The Abbeyleix/Ballyragget Rd (R432) will be closed for works between Abbeyleix itself and Ballinakill on Tues 18th and Wed 19th May, from 9am to 6pm each day.

LONGFORD: A stop/go system will be in place for works on Main St in Newtownforbes (part of the N4) until approx. Mon 11th Oct, 7am to 7pm each weekday.

LEITRIM/LONGFORD: The N4 will be closed for works at Roosky on Tues 18th May between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Diversions will be in place.

MEATH: In Navan Town Centre, Ludlow St (R896) will close for works between Market Square and Church Hill until 7pm Tues 31st Aug. Diversions will be signposted.

MEATH: The N3 southbound will be closed for works between Kells and the Derver R/A until approx Fri 11th June. Diversions will be in place.

MEATH: Works will be in place on the Ratoath/Ashbourne Rd (R125) near the local Kilbride turn-off just outside Ratoath until Friday (21st).

MEATH/LOUTH: The M1 southbound will close for overnight works between J10 Drogheda North and J7 Julianstown, from 7pm each night to 6am the following morning, until Sat 31st July. Diversions will be in place.

MUNSTER:

CLARE: There are a number of layout changes to roads in Ennis Town Centre from now until Thurs 30th Sept. The changes will be in place Mon to Sat from 11am to 6pm. This is to allow for social distancing in the town. Diversions will be signposted and parking will be affected as well. From the 30th May, the layout changes will be in place Mon-Sun from 11am-6pm until the end of September.

CORK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N20 in Mallow just south of the Annabella R/A until Mon 24th May.

CORK: The Carrigrohane/Nad Rd (R579) will be closed between Crean's Cross and Cloghroe until 6pm on Friday (21st). Diversions will be in place.

CORK: Lane restrictions and a stop/go system will be in place for works on the Skehard Rd, between the Church Rd jct and turn-off for Mahon (R852), until approx. November.

CORK: A closure will be in place for works on the Crosshaven Rd (R612) in Carrigaline until Fri 28th May. Diversions will be in place, including for Bus Éireann routes 220/220X.

CORK: The M8 northbound will be down to one lane, with the left lane closed, near the Dunkettle Interchange until mid-July.

CORK: Reduced speed limits are now in effect on all approaches to the Dunkettle Interchange due to works until at least January 2022. A reduced speed limit of 60kmph applies on both ways on stretches of the M8, N8, N40 and the N25. To the east of the 60kmph stretch, the N25 also has a stretch reduced to 80kmph for 1.5km at Little Island until approx. August. Take care in the area and watch out for new signage.

CORK: The slip road linking the Dunkettle Interchange to the Old Youghal Rd via Bury's Bridge and the on-slip to the N25 eastbound from Bury's Bridge will both close for works until early 2022 as part of an upgrade to the Dunkettle Interchange.

CORK: Works will be in place on the N22 between Macroom and Ballyvourney at Carrigaphooca until Fri 25th June.

KERRY: The Tralee/Ballyduff Rd (R556) will remain closed for works until at least Dec approx. halfway between the two towns. Local access is facilitated.

KERRY: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place on the N71 Ring of Kerry between Kenmare and Moll's Gap to facilitate works until Thurs 8th July.

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N69 near Kildimo until Fri 18th June.

LIMERICK: The Rathkeale/Ballingarry Rd (R518) will close for works from 7am to 8pm each day until Tues 30th Nov. Diversions will be signposted.

LIMERICK: The Kilfinnane/Mitchelstown Rd (R517) will be closed for works between Kilfinnane itself and the Mitchelstown Golf Club until Thurs 30th Sept, 8am to 6pm each day. Diversions will be in place.

LIMERICK: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N20 at Banogue Cross until Fri 4th June.

LIMERICK: A stop/go system is in place for works on the N21 at Newcastle West until Friday (21st).

LIMERICK: The Caherconlish/Hospital Rd (R513) will be closed for works just south of Caherconlish until Friday (21st) between 8am and 6pm each day.

LIMERICK/TIPPERARY: The Galbally/Aherlow Rd (R663) will be closed for works just outside Galbally itself until Thurs 30th Sept, 8am to 6pm each day. Diversions will be in place.

TIPPERARY: In Cashel, Lower Gate St (R505) and Golden Rd (R932) will close at their junction with Lower Gate Square until 8am on Mon 31st May. Local access will be maintained.

TIPPERARY: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N24 at the Pill Rd in Carrick-on-Suir near the local Knocknaconnery turn-off until Friday (21st).

WATERFORD: Temporary traffic lights will be in place for works on the N72 outside Lismore on the Tallow side until until Fri 28th May. 

WATERFORD: From Tues 18th to Thurs 20th May, Lady Lane will close between Bake House lane and Francis Place to facilitate works. The automatic bollards in Arundel Square will remain down during this period allowing traffic onto the Quays via Conduit Lane.

CONNACHT:

GALWAY: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N84 at Ballindooley on Tues (18th), 9:30am to 4:30pm.

GALWAY: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N59 east of Maam Cross until approx. the end of June.

GALWAY: Temporary traffic lights and a reduced speed limit of 50kmph are in place on the N67 just outside Kinvara on the Kilcolgan side until approx. June.

GALWAY: Works are in place at the Kirwan R/A in Galway City until approx. the end of July.

LEITRIM: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph will be in place for works on the N16 near Glencar until approx. Fri 31st Dec.

MAYO: Works will be in place on the N59 approx. halfway between Westport and Leenane until approx. Friday (21st).

MAYO: Temporary traffic lights will be in place for works on the N5 between Castlebar and Westport near the turn-off for Cloonkeen until approx. Tues 25th May.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N17 Ballyhaunis Rd in Charlestown, between the town centre and the Ballyglass R/A, until approx. Fri 4th June.

MAYO: Until the end of 2021, a reduced speed limit of 60km/h will be in place for works on the N26 for a stretch between Foxford and Swinford where the route crosses over the River Moy.

MAYO: A stop/go system will be in place on the N60 between Balla and Claremorris for works until approx. Tues 1st June, 9am to 5:30pm each weekday.

LEITRIM/LONGFORD: The N4 will be closed for works at Roosky on Tues 18th May between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Diversions will be in place.

SLIGO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N59 approx. half way between Ballina and Dromore West until Tues 25th May.

SLIGO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N17 on the Charlestown side of Tobercurry until Friday (21st).

SLIGO: A stop/go system will be in place for works at two spots on the N15: one set at Grange and another at Cliffoney until Friday (21st).

SLIGO: A stop/go system will be in place for works on the N4 between Drumfin and Castlebaldwin until approx. Friday (21st).

SLIGO: Major works continue in Sligo Town on the N4 Inner Relief Rd, N15 Bundoran Rd and N16 Duck St. Lane restrictions remain in place both ways on N4 at Hughes Bridge for works - on the N15 southbound, drivers of cars and light goods vehicles are asked to use the Finisklin Rd to access the Finisklin and docks area, rather than Ballast Quay. Until Thursday (20th), the right turn from the N4 northbound onto the N16 Duck St will be closed, as will the right turn from Duck St to the N15 northbound. On Wednesday (19th) and Thursday (20th), the N15 southbound will close at the N16 Duck St jct.

SLIGO: Works will be in place on the N16 north of Sligo Town between the Leitrim county bounds and the Drum Rd turn-off until approx. Wednesday (19th).

SLIGO: The N4 remains closed for a 3km stretch south of Collooney near the Tobar Bhríde R/A to facilitate works, but traffic is being diverted a new parallel road through the industrial estate. This is expected to stay in place until Fri 13th August.

SLIGO: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph is also still in place on the N4 just north of Castlebaldwin until further notice.

SLIGO: The N4 remains closed for a 3km stretch south of Collooney near the Tobar Bhríde R/A to facilitate works, but traffic is being diverted a new parallel road through the industrial estate. This is expected to stay in place until Fri 13th August.

SLIGO: A reduced speed limit of 60kmph is also still in place on the N4 just north of Castlebaldwin until further notice.
