Ahead of the annual fashion event of the year - the MET Gala - we round up some of the best and worst looks to grace the MET red carpet over the years.
It's the event all fashion fanatics await eagerly each year, and it usually throws up more red carpet hits than misses.
Here are some of the most memorable looks, for good or for bad, of all time!
Emma Stone is our number one style crush at the moment, and at the 2012 MET Gala she was by far our favourite look on the night. The actress stunned in a Lanvin mini-dress, shunning the ubiquitous floor-sweeper gowns, and going for a fresh and young hemline that hit her just above the knee. This playful dress was embellished with crystal flowers and featured a voluminous skirt, without being in any way over-the-top. Beautiful!
Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her toned physique in an embellished nude Stella McCartney dress in 2011, and we loved this daring look on her. The backless dress had a dangerously high split at the leg, revealing those pins to perfection.
Model Doutzen Kroes was the picture of old Hollywood elegance in a cornflower blue Zac Posen tulle confection in 2010. This fairytale gown featured sheer sleeves, a fitted bodice and seriously voluminous skirt. A classic upstyle and red lipstick kept the look timeless.
Kate Moss rocked a Marc Jacobs Grecian-style mini dress in 2009. This gold lamé one-shouldered gúna was set off with a matching headband. Red carpet dressing doesn't get much cooler than this.
Jessica Biel was a picture in timeless elegance in head-to-toe Giambattista Valli in 2013, and gave her nod to the punk-rock theme with a very delicate silver ring through her nose. Absolutely gorgeous.
And here are some of the more nightmare-inducing looks that have come to pass:
Emmy Rossum looks altogether too costumey in this Ralph Lauren creation from 2001. Military jackets may have been all the rage at the time but there is too much going on in this look with gold detailing, the large collar and fishtail skirt. A definite fashion miss for the often stylish star.
Beyonce generally can do no wrong but unfortunately at the 2013 Gala, she did little right. In a gaudy Givenchy gown, complete with matching thigh-high boots, Queen Bey was eye-catching for all the wrong reasons.
Kim Kardashian's 2013 Riccardo Tisci disaster has to be one of the most memorable car-crash moments in the MET Gala's history. The Punk theme didn't seem to come into the reality star's mind as she chose this floral ensemble complete with matching gloves and heels. Not her finest moment!
The 2001 Gala was not a good year for Karolina Kurkova and this plaid explosion did nothing for the former Victoria's Secret model.
Mischa Barton looked drab and dated in this Missoni gown at the 2008 Gala. It's almost hard to know where to start; the colour, the ill-fit, the poofy straps - take your pick. Not a good look for the actress at all.
