Roddy Doyle nominated for tonight's Irish Book Awards

One of the biggest nights in the Irish literary calendar kicks off tonight in Dublin when authors gather in Dublin for The Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards.

Roddy Doyle, Colum McCann, Darina Allen, Donal Ryan and Frank McGuinness are among the writers nominated as well as memoirs from Eamon Dunphy, comedian Jennifer Saunders, sporting figures such as DJ Carey and Johnny Sexton.

Also in contention are new works by Patricia Scanlan, Claudia Carroll, Cathy Kelly and Rachael English. Young Adult and children’s writers nominated include former winners John Boyne, Derek Landy and Chris Judge.

The awards, now in their third year, will be formally presented at the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony to be held in The DoubleTree Hotel in Dublin 4 tonight.
