Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard has denied reports that her new co-star Jimi Mistry will be playing her character Liz McDonald's lover in the soap.
Mistry has been cast as Khalid, an old friend of Gary Windass's (Mikey North), and there had been speculation that romance would blossom between him and Liz upon his arrival in Weatherfield.
However, Callard told Radio Times: "It's not true. I wish it were because he's gorgeous, but it really isn't. I don't know where that rumour came from. But he's not for Liz."
On the identity of her new on-screen lover, Callard said: "They've just cast him. He's about the same age as me and he starts filming next week, but I haven't met him yet."
She continued: "I asked our producer Stuart Blackburn not to cast someone really short - usually Liz is in really high heels so I end up being much taller than whoever I'm paired with."
Callard added of her new love interest: "He's intermingled with many characters, the storyline is set to go on for a long time and it's really, really good."
