The Weinstein Co has signed a deal to distribute in the US Irishman John Carney’s new film at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival.

Can a Song Save Your Life? is the latest offering from Once creator Carney, and it has been warmly received and reviewed at the Festival.

The film stars Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo and is a further exploration from the director of the power of music.

It also stars James Corden, Hailee Steinfeld and Adam Levine and tells the story of a British woman living in New York who is dragged up on stage to perform one of her songs at an open mic event when she is spotted by a disenchanted A&R man.

After the film screened on Saturday night, a rush of distributors bid to add the film to their slates with The Weinstein Co winning out, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is set to open in cinema next year.
