Kirsten Dunst has been cast in Jeff Nichols's latest film Midnight Special.
The actress joins Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, Boardwalk Empire) and Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty) in the sci-fi movie, Deadline reports.
Mud helmer Nichols is directing the project from his own script, which sees a father and his 8-year-old son go on the run when the boy is revealed to have supernatural powers.
Nichols previously compared the movie to John Carpenter's 1984 film Starman.
Dunst will next appear in thriller The Two Faces of January.
A release date for Midnight Special has not been revealed.
