Simon Cowell has broken his silence following reports that he is to become a father for the first time.
American publication US Weekly broke the news that the X-Factor creator was expecting a baby with his friend's wife, New York socialite Lauren Silverman.
The music mogul attended the Television Critics press tour on Thursday (August 1) in Los Angeles, and was asked about the allegations.
Variety quotes Cowell as jokingly saying: "I haven't read the newspapers, did I miss anything?"
He added: "Unfortunately at this moment I have to keep it private."
Later, Cowell explained to People: "There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there's a lot of people's feelings involved here."
In a statement released to People, Lauren Silverman commented: "I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible to ensure the well-being of our son. I would hope for some space and privacy in order to work through this."
Her husband Andrew Silverman also released a statement which read: “My top priority is protecting my 7-year-old son while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife. Hopefully people can respect the interest of our child during this process."
