The cast and crew of EastEnders filmed scenes at the weekend for a storyline that will see one of the soap's characters fighting for his life.

Warning: spoiler alert!

Radio Times reports that in scenes to be aired in September, Phil (Steve McFadden) will be involved in a car crash that leaves him in a critical condition – another character in the soap will be driving the car.

The show's Executive Producer, Lorraine Newman, said the storyline will be: "A suitably explosive start to a jam-packed autumn and winter full of love, romance and reprisals. Treats for audiences old and new. And one literal vanishing act... It's time to take your seats!"

Barbara Windsor, who plays Phil's mother Peggy, is also set to return for a one-off appearance this autumn.
