Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn has revealed that Hayley Cropper’s exit from the show will be ‘the most honest, truthful and emotional story’ of the year.
Hayley Cropper fans where left stunned earlier this year when actress Julie Hesmondhalgh announced back in January that she was leaving the soap so that she can pursue other projects.
Speculation has been rife as to how Hayley will exit the Street with several tabloids reporting that she will be diagnosed with cancer.
Whatever bosses have in store for Hayley, producer Stuart Blackburn has revealed that it will be a very emotional time for the Croppers.
Speaking to Digital Spy he said: “I'm also in buckets over Hayley, as I'm heartbroken to be losing such a fantastic character. What I can guarantee is that we're throwing everything in to make it the most honest, truthful and emotional story that we'll be playing this year."
Blackburn also spoke about Michelle Keegan who will be leaving the soap sometime next year.
He said: “I remember storylining Tina's very first scenes, so I'm so connected to the character. It's rare for young actors to come into the show and make the impact that Michelle has done in a relatively short space of time, so we really need to get the story right and I know that it's going to be exciting.”
