Gillian Anderson has hinted at what to expect from season two of The Fall.

Currently running on RTÉ One on Sundays and BBC Two on Mondays, the crime thriller was officially recomissioned by the BBC earlier this week.

Anderson told Collider that the first run will end with a cliffhanger. "There will be another season," she confirmed. "A cliffhanger is always a good thing to bring people back.

"Unfortunately, people will just have to wait for the next season. This is all there is. It's unfortunate that everybody will have to wait for as long as they'll have to wait."

Anderson added that - as an exec producer - she will be taking a hands-on role in the direction of season two's storyline.

"I will be actively involved and put in my two cents," said the actress. "At the end of the day, it comes down to [series creator] Allan Cubitt and his particular genius with story and conflict.

"I 100% trust that, if a decision is made in a direction that's away from something that I've suggested, that it will be the right decision. I will just participate in the brainstorming and ideas, but the final decision will be made by the experts."
