Born in Melbourne to Irish parents, Shannon McCurley created history at Rio 2016 when she became Ireland's first female track cycling Olympian.
McCurley competed in the keirin at the last Games, but will gain a team-mate in Emily Kay and face a test of stamina as she switches her focus to the madison in Tokyo.
The 29-year-old's career highlight to date came at the 2019 European Championships in the Netherlands, where she brought home a sliver medal in the scratch race.
