James Scully has won Ireland’s third medal at the IPC World Swimming Championships in Montreal.

The Meath man claimed a bronze medal in the S5 200 metre freestyle final, clocking a time of 2:58:20.

Scully was also able to cut almost two seconds off the time he posted in his earlier heat as he finished behind Daniel Dias of Brazil who took gold and America’s Ray Perkins who was second.

Earlier in the evening session, Ireland’s Ellen Keane missed out on a medal but improved on her heat time as she finished sixth in the S9 50m freestyle final, in a time of 31.03.

Eighteen-year-old Keane still has the final of the SM9 200m individual medley to come.
