Kevin Doyle is a major injury concern for the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Germany next week after suffering a thigh injury during training for his club

The Wolves striker is definitely ruled out of tomorrow’s game against Blackburn, according to a report on the npower Championship team’s website.

Wolves manager Stale Solbakken said: “Kevin Doyle's injury is not serious but he will miss the game tomorrow and the international games."

But the FAI have not yet given up hope on the Wexford native recovering in time.

A statement from the association this evening said: "Kevin Doyle picked up a thigh injury during training with Wolves this morning.

"The extent of the injury remains to be seen. Kevin is having a scan later this evening with results expected tomorrow."

Ireland play the three-time World Cup winners in Dublin on Friday and then travel to face the Faroe Islands four days later.

Meanwhile, Sunderland Midfielder David Meyler has been called up to Giovanni Trapattoni's squad.
