European wrap: Harry Kane the cup final hat-trick hero as Bayern Munich seal double

Harry Kane of Munich celebrates after scoring his team's third goal during the DFB Cup Final 2026 match between FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart at Olympiastadion on May 23, 2026 in Berlin, Germany.

Harry Kane hit a hat-trick and took his season's tally to 61 goals as Bayern Munich beat Stuttgart 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal final to lift the trophy for a 21st time and the first since 2020.

Kane put Bayern ahead 10 minutes into the second half as Vincent Kompany’s side completed a domestic double.

The England captain struck the crossbar with a powerful effort with 10 minutes left but moments later was celebrating his second of the night and 60th of the season, firing in after a one-two with Luis Diaz.

Kane was not done there and ended the night by completing his hat-trick, beating Alexander Nubel from the penalty spot after Angelo Stiller had blocked Michael Olise’s cross with an arm.

Stuttgart had started the match brightly and were the first to threaten in an opening 45 minutes of few chances, but after Kane’s opening goal and a subsequent break in play due to a build-up of flare smoke inside Berlin’s Olympic Stadium they struggled to regain any momentum.

Kane will move into the final year of his contract with Bayern this summer and speculation has linked him with Barcelona in recent days.

Asked about his future after the match, he told Sky Sports Germany: "It's not the time to talk about that now, but there’s no panic. We wanted to hold conversations until the end of the season and we’ve got a World Cup still to play. But everyone knows how much I enjoy it here. That situation is calm."

Valencia scored twice in the space of five second-half minutes as they came from behind to beat LaLiga champions Barcelona 3-1, although it was not enough to earn them European qualification on the final day of the season.

Robert Lewandowski marked his final Barcelona appearance with a goal as the veteran Poland striker put the champions ahead just after the hour mark.

Javi Guerra soon levelled for the hosts and were then ahead through Luis Rioja before Guido Rodriguez added a third deep into stoppage time.

Valencia hung on to claim the three points, but Getafe's win over Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano’s victory at Alaves kept them out of the European places.

Alvaro Arbeloa signed off as Real Madrid coach with a 4-2 win over Athletic Bilbao at the Bernabeu.

Former manager Jose Mourinho is widely reported to be set to leave Benfica in the summer and return for a second spell at the Bernabeu, 13 years after his departure.

Real Madrid went ahead in the 12th minute when Gonzalo Garcia converted a sweeping cross from Dani Carvajal – also set to leave his boyhood club – out on the right.

Jude Bellingham crashed home a second before Gorka Guruzeta pulled a goal back just ahead of the break.

Kylian Mbappe, though, soon restored Real’s two-goal advantage in the 51st minute, before both defender David Alaba and then long-serving Real Madrid captain Carvajal were given guards of honour as they were substituted.

Brahim Diaz added a late fourth for Real and Urko Izeta headed in Athletic’s second during added time, marking the end of Ernesto Valverde’s latest stay as manager of the Basque club, having taken charge of more than 500 games through three spells.

Mallorca saw off Real Oviedo 3-0, but were relegated on head-to-head record with rivals Levante – who lost 2-1 at Real Betis – and Osasuna, beaten 1-0 at Getafe, who secured seventh spot. Girona also went down after they drew with Elche.

Serie A champions Inter Milan finished their campaign with a 3-3 draw at Bologna, where Andy Diouf scored a late equaliser.

Federico Dimarco put Inter ahead, before Federico Bernardeschi equalised and Tommaso Pobega saw Bologna in front just before half-time.

Piotr Zielinski’s own goal made it 3-1 early in the second half, before Pio Esposito reduced the deficit just after the hour and then Diouf struck with four minutes left.

In Saturday’s evening kick-off, Lazio won 2-1 at bottom side Pisa.
