Villarreal are up to third place in La Liga after a 2-0 win against Real Valladolid.

First-half goals from Samuel Chukwueze and Pau Torres saw the hosts extend their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions.

The result moved Villarreal above Atletico Madrid and two points behind league leaders Real Sociedad.

In the Bundesliga, all the goals came in the second half as Hoffenheim were beaten 3-1 at home by Union Berlin.

Robert Skov's 58th-minute red card changed the game and the visitors took the lead from the resulting penalty through Max Kruse.

Munas Dabbur equalised for the 10 men of Hoffenheim, but late gaols from Joel Pohjanpalo and Cedric Teuchert gave Berlin all three points.

The score was also 3-1 in Serie A where Verona were victorious against Benevento.

Gianluca Lapadula equalised for the visitors either side of Antonin Barak’s double before Darko Lazovic gave Verona a two-goal cushion shortly after Gianluca Caprari’s 72nd-minute red card.
