AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has tested positive for Covid-19, the Serie A club have confirmed in a statement.

Milan said that the Swede would miss the Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt later on Thursday.

"Having informed the relevant health authorities, the player was promptly placed in quarantine at home," it said.

The player took to Twitter, adding: "I tested negative to Covid yesterday and positive today. No symptoms what so ever."

The announcement came one day after his team-mate Leo Duarte returned a positive test. However, Milan said the rest of the squad, who were also tested, were negative.

Ibrahimovic (38) made his first competitive appearance of the season for Milan last Thursday against Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League second qualifying round at Tallaght Stadium.

The former Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Ajax striker scored the Rossoneri's opening goal in the 2-0 win over the current SSE Airtricity League Premier Division leaders.

He then scored both goals against Bologna on Monday as Milan opened their Serie A campaign with a win at the San Siro.
