UEFA has confirmed they will hold a draw to decide which team is at home in the play-off final for Euro 2020 that could ultimately decide whether the Republic of Ireland play at the Aviva Stadium, Windsor Park or in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a place at the competition.

Mick McCarthy's Ireland team will face Slovakia away from home in a one-legged play-off semi-final.

That game will take place in Slovakia on Thursday 26 March, likely at 7:45pm.

Slovakia have a month to declare the home venue having played all their games in Trnava this campaign, but their newly-renovated stadium in Bratislava was tested recently with a limited capacity.

The date for a final decision on the venue is before 20 December.

Should Ireland win, they will then face the winner of Bosnia v Northern Ireland on Tuesday 31 March for a place at Euro 2020.

A separate draw, to be held this Friday, will decide which team will have home advantage in that decider. The draw is live on RTÉ News Now and on the RTÉ Player from 11am.

Ireland are one of 16 teams who are in the last-chance saloon and aiming to grab one of the four final Euro 2020 places available.

Confusingly there will be another, separate draw to decide which of Bulgaria, Israel, Hungary or Romania will face Scotland in their semi-final play-off and who will go into Path A with Iceland.

Meanwhile UEFA have also confirmed more details on the draw for the group stage of Euro 2020 which will take place on Saturday 30 November, live on RTÉ, but Ireland already know that if they book their place in the final they will be in Group E along with Spain due to their status as tournament hosts.

The seeds have been confirmed for the main draw.

Ireland would play Spain as stated, along with one team from France, Poland, Switzerland or Croatia.

The other team in the group would be one of Portugal, Turkey, Austria, Sweden or Czech Republic.
