Finn Harps have appointed Gavin Dykes as their assistant manager for the 2016 season.

The Ballybofey club finished second in the SSE Airtricity League First Division last season and returned to the top flight after securing a 2-1 aggregate play-off win over Limerick.

Dykes, who played with Harps and who more recently headed up Sligo Rovers youth development programme, will assist manager Ollie Horgan after James Gallagher relinquished his post in December to concentrate on work and family commitments.

Commenting on the appointment, Horgan said: "We took our time and wanted to get it right. We have someone in with Premier Division experience who knows the league well.

“He is someone we feel can fit the high bill that James Gallagher brought.

"He has been here before managing the club. The biggest thing he brings is his knowledge of the Premier Division. That knowledge will be huge for us."
