Rosenborg have parted company with manager Per Joar Hansen ahead of the Europa League second round second leg with Sligo Rovers.

The Bit o' Red secured a remarkable 2-1 win in the Lerkendal Stadium last week and it has cost Hansen his job ahead of the conclusion of the tie.

Rosenborg beat Sogndal 1-0 in a league game yesterday but it was not enough to salvage Hansen's job and they currently stand fourth in the league, nine points behind leaders Molde.

“The club has not been satisfied with the results or performance development, and sees that it is necessary to make changes to achieve this,” a statement on the Rosenborg club website read.

“The Board recognises that the sporting efforts have not worked optimally and will continue to work on defining the organisation and functions of the athletic department. We are prepared to spend time on this.”

The second leg takes place in The Showgrounds on Thursday and it is likely the Norwegian outfit will have an interim in place rather than appoint a permanent manager.
