Cork City have progressed to the third round of the FAI Ford Cup after beating Kilbarrack United 3-1 at Turner's Cross.

The managerless hosts got off to a flying start as Danny Morrissey gave them a first-minute lead against the north Dublin non-league side.

Kilbarrack held their own for the remainder of the first half and came out in the second period still in the contest, however, Morrissey's brace, an excellent finish in the 54th minute, ended their hopes of a cup upset.

Garry Buckley made it 3-0 to City in the 62th minute from an Ian Turner corner to end the contest before James English hit a consolation goal for United in the 67th minute.

Cork will now take on Sligo Rovers in the third round of the cup.
