Stephen Kenny has been confirmed as the new manager of Airtricity Premier League side Dundalk.

The Lillywhites, who had to overcome a promotion/relegation play-off against Waterford United to ensure their continuing top flight status, have agreed a two-year contract with the Dublin native.

Kenny joins Dundalk after a troubled spell with Shamrock Rovers that saw him sacked less than eight months after taking charge of the Hoops.

Compensation talks between Kenny and Rovers are believed to have delayed Dundalk’s announcement but those issues have been resolved.

Dundalk Director Ciarán Bond said: "As a club, we are thrilled to welcome Stephen Kenny as our new first-team manager.

"Stephen was our number one target from when we began the search for a new manager and we are delighted to be able to get him on board."
