St Patrick’s Athletic take a slender lead into tonight’s Europa League first-round second leg clash with Icelandic side IBV at Hasteinsvollur Stadium, kick-off 8:30pm.

Liam Buckley’s side travel north with a 1-0 advantage having enjoyed a victory at Richmond Park last week, thanks to Christy Fagan’s strike.

And a clean sheet in Inchicore also gives the Saints a great chance of progressing to meet Siroki Brijeg from Bosnia-Herzegovina in the next round of the competition.

The Richmond Park outfit knocked out IBV in last year’s Europa League and the St Pat’s boss is confident of finishing off the job this evening.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Saints boss Buckley said: “If we apply ourselves, we should be able to get through the tie. I expect it to be a tight game and for them to set up differently than how they did in the first leg.

“They have to come out and try to score, which should make it a very open game. But we are very good defensively and we always create plenty of chances so I would back us to score a goal.

“If we do manage to get a bit of luck and score over there then that puts them under a lot of pressure. I think we are capable of getting a result and getting through the tie.”

Buckley has a strong squad to choose from with only Mark Rossiter and Dean Kelly unavailable.

Rossiter is ruled out with a knee injury and Kelly is struggling with a groin strain but otherwise the Saints boss has a full squad available for selection.
