Robbie Keane is on the verge of moving to Aston Villa on a two-month loan deal according to reports this morning.

The Irish Daily Star claims that Keane’s club LA Galaxy, who are out of season at the moment, are willing to release the Republic of Ireland captain for a short time once an agreement can be put in place.

The 31-year-old had stated he had no interest in a loan move to England on arrival at Galaxy, but now feels the switch would benefit his fitness ahead of Euro 2012.

Villa’s manager Alex McLeish has refused to comment on the speculation.

In the immediate future, however, Keane will be training with his old side Tottenham.

The White Hart Lane side released a statement today saying:

"The club can confirm that Robbie Keane will train with the first-team squad up until 20 January in order to build up his fitness ahead of returning to LA Galaxy for the start of the new MLS season."
