Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Kevin Sheedy is excited about his new job as Hartlepool's assistant manager. Sheedy is looking forward to helping the club gain promotion and linked up with manager Mike Newell and the players for his first training session yesterday.

"I think the club is set up for higher-division football. The players and the club have got themselves in a good position and hopefully we can carry it forward. I have been out of the game for a long time, although I have had a couple of opportunities to go back. When I spoke to Mike about coming here, though, it was an idea that excited me and I'm relishing the challenge," he told Hartlepool's website.
