Bohemians scored a resounding 6-4 victory over Shamrock Rovers at the Morton Stadium today. An overwhelming recovery from Bohemians saw them come back from a 4-1 half-time defecit, to pull off one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Tony Grant opened the scoring for Rovers with Dave Hill equalising the score. Seán Francis executed a penalty followed by a second from Grant before Brian Byrne added the fourth minutes before half-time.
Bohemians regained their composure in the second half and goals from Alex Nesovic, David Morrison and Glenn Crowe levelled the score at 4-4. The goal bug had bitten Bohs however, and they attacked again with Mark Rutherford getting his name on the score sheet in the 79th minute and Crowe getting his second of the night on the 90th minute.
Meanwhile at Turners Cross, home advantage proved no advantage for Cork City as they suffered a 0-4 defeat to St Pats. The three first-half goals came from Ger McCarthy and Stephen McGuinness struck home twice. Greg O'Halloran was sent off in the second half and Cork have now suffered three home defeats in a row.
So near and yet so far was the story of the night at Belfield where UCD stole a 1-0 victory over Kilkenny. The visitors dominated the proceedings but a goal from substitute Robbie Martin with nine minutes remaining sealed UCD’s victory.
Meanwhile, Athlone Town suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Monaghan United at Gortakeegan. The leaders fell behind to a David Rogers penalty in the 18th minute, which was cancelled out by another spot kick from the division's top scorer Andy Myler. However, Town's joy was short lived, as Ken Lundy restored Monaghan's advantage a minute later, and the same player added the third in the 76th minute to secure the three points for United. In the day's other First Division match, St Francis beat Cobh Ramblers 3-0, thanks to goals from Fitzell, Doherty and Chandler.
