Irish duo Matt McGovern and Ryan Seaton finished eighth in the 49er class medal race at the ISAF World Sailing Championships in Perth, taking 10th position overall in the event.

The overall result is a personal best for the pair. The Championships came to a close today with a number of medal races.

Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen of Australia confirmed their world number one ranking in the 49er skiff fleet, winning the gold medal.

Peter Burling and Tuke Blair of New Zealand took the silver while the bronze went to Denmark’s Toft Nielsen brothers, Emil and Simon.

ISA performance director James O’Callaghan said: "(It was) a very strong start to the Olympic campaign. We achieved our target of qualifying three classes at this event and the three campaigns finished in the top 12.

"Annalise Murphy in the Laser Radial in 6th, Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern in the 49er in 10th and Peter O’Leary and David Burrows in the Star in 12th."
