RTÉ Sport has announced details of its comprehensive coverage of this year’s RBS 6 Nations, which sees the tournament being broadcast in HD for the first time in Ireland. All 15 RBS 6 Nations matches will be broadcast in HD free-to-air on RTÉ Two HD on SAORVIEW.

RTÉ brings fans all the action as Ireland’s 2012 RBS 6 Nations campaign features home fixtures against Wales, Italy and Scotland taking place in the Aviva Stadium while the team plays away to England and France. RTÉ Sport continue to deliver the widest and best coverage of the most highly anticipated and most-watched rugby tournament in Ireland.

- RTÉ Sport will deliver extensive coverage of RBS 6 Nations 2012 including:

- All 15 matches across the five weekends of the tournament broadcast live on RTÉ Two television and on RTÉ Two HD on SAORVIEW.

- All of Ireland’s matches broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1, FM, LW, DAB and online.

All 15 matches will be streamed live on RTÉ.ie within the Island of Ireland.

RTÉ’s coverage of the RBS 6 Nations always captures the imagination of the Irish public with the tournament featuring twice in the Top 10 sports programmes* watched in Ireland last year. In a bumper year for Irish sport, Ireland’s glorious win over England 24 – 8 in the Aviva Stadium was the fourth most-watched sports programme with an average audience of 690,000* while Ireland’s narrow 6 Nations defeat to France at home comes in at number ten with an average audience of 544,000*.

RTÉ’s unrivalled team of presenters and panellists will be providing their expert analysis and opinion at every stage of the tournament. On RTÉ Two television, Irish International and Leinster’s Shane Horgan will join the panel for the first time on the RBS 6 Nations. Anchorman Tom McGurk will also be joined by George Hook, Brent Pope, Conor O’Shea and Donal Lenihan with Clare MacNamara reporting from the Irish camp while the commentary team of Ryle Nugent, Tony Ward, George Hamilton, Hugh Cahill, Ralph Keyes and Frankie Sheahan bring you all the action on the field.

Joanne Cantwell returns each Monday with a brand new series of Against the Head, where she will be joined by regular panellists Frankie Sheahan, Victor Costello, Alan Quinlan, David Wallace, Bernard Jackman, Isa Nacewa and others for a lively mix of interviews, news, analysis and discussion.

Further to the RTÉ Television’s extensive live coverage of the tournament, there will also be live coverage of Ireland U20s clashes against Wales and Scotland on RTÉ Two.

Irish fans can hear full commentary on all of their country’s matches on all RTÉ Radio 1 platforms, FM, LW, DAB and online. RTÉ Radio 1’s Saturday Sport and Sunday Sport will offer live coverage and analysis at all five of Ireland’s RBS 6 Nations matches with simultaneous broadcasts on digital and online platforms. RTÉ Radio will also carry reports and updates on the other games with extensive previews, reviews, news and interviews throughout the tournament.

RTÉ Radio’s commentary team, Michael Corcoran, Donal Lenihan and Tony Ward, will be joined by former Irish internationals Alan Quinlan, Victor Costello, Emmett Byrne and Hugo MacNeill analysing every ruck, tackle, maul and try. Sport @ Seven will deal with all the RBS 6 Nations' stories between games from Monday to Friday, while RTÉ 2fm’s Ballbusters will preview all five games in its own inimitable style

RTÉ.ie/sport will cover the 2012 RBS 6 Nations with a range of multimedia content at www.rte.ie/sixnations. With an in-depth focus on Ireland’s campaign, the site will feature live-text match commentaries, live and on-demand video and audio, player ratings, and incisive debate and analysis from RTÉ’s rugby analysts and writers. There will also be live web-only coverage of Ireland’s U20s matches against France and Italy.

Users will also be able to have their say on the talking points and most hotly debated topics of this year’s Six Nations via RTÉ Rugby on Facebook and Twitter.

All RBS 6 Nations matches will be streamed live (video) and will be accessible for RTÉ.ie users within the island of Ireland.
